3 Simple Self-Care Ideas to Add to Your Daily Routine

Self-care and self-love are both words that get tossed about way too effortlessly these days. 

Nonetheless, I believe that both of these are essential for not just your overall health and fitness, but your well-being. 

I have to encourage you to make a few extra minutes in your day just for you. 

Let your phone ring. 

(Actually, just put do not disturb on for a good 30 minutes. The world will not fall apart and I promise you’ll be so completely grateful for every single one of those 30 minutes). 

Let your kids play a little longer or have a little extra screen time.

 (Yes, I’m encouraging you to trade your personal time for your kids screen time. Here’s why – if Momma ain’t happy, ain’t nobody happy. YOU are the glue, yet if your needs aren’t met, you can’t hold anything together). 

Let the laundry sit in the dryer a little longer. 

(You can always let it run a few extra minutes on that wrinkle release cycle, you feel me?)

YOU are important.

I repeat, YOU are important.

It’s OK to not be ‘busy’ every second of the day.

Taking care of yourself isn’t selfish in the negative way you’ve been brainwashed into believing. 

Self-care isn’t selfish.

It’s OK enjoy it. 

Taking care of yourself is a non-negotiable. 

& with that being said… here are 3 ways you can begin incorporating a few extra minutes of self-care into your daily routine. 

3 Self-Care Ideas…

  1. Jade Rolling Your Night Serum + Moisturizer 

One of my favorite self-care routines lately has been taking an extra minute or two at night after washing my face to use a roller to apply my night serum and moisturizer. Recently, I’ve been loving Pacifica Vegan Collagen Complex Serum & Recovery Cream combined with Isle of Paradise Self-Tanning drops. I first apply my serum, then add my cream mixed with the tanning drops and spend a few minutes using my jade roller to make sure my skin soaks it all up! 

While Jade Rollers are known to help reduce puffiness, wrinkles, and give you a more natural glow, I cannot claim that mine does or does not do this. What I can claim is that my skin definitely absorbs the serum and cream so much better when I use the roller and my face just feels better; almost like it feels so much more relaxed with less pressure and puffiness overall. So, if anything, I love these added benefits!

2. Exfoliating 

If you didn’t know, I have severely dry skin. Like, it’s so dry that my Mom had to take me to the dermatologist when I was a child. They prescribed me this horrible cream that felt like a combination of vaseline and crisco that I used to have to put on my hands and feet AND THEN put tube socks over them both before going to bed. Basically, it’s safe to assume this was the beginning of my childhood trauma and probably why I have a fear of being trapped now that I’m an adult. But that’s a topic for another blog post. 

One of the things I am extremely self-conscious over and try my best to target is the dry, flakey skin that I get no matter what season… on my face. Yes, I’ve know that “exfoliating” is key for this but y’all, I’m not kidding when I tell you that using an EXFOLIATOR is a complete game changer. Goodbye flakey skin. 

I came across this one while in Ulta a couple weeks ago. I wasn’t impressed by the $25 price tag and felt certain that I could find it on Amazon for cheaper. I was right. I can’t speak for the pricier exfoliators (although I’m sure they’re wonderful) but this one is under $20 and a great one to try out if you’re also considering it. It polishes your face RIGHT up! 

3. Journaling

I know… you don’t have time. 

BUT GIRL this journal has been my JAM the last month or so & everyone following my Instagram stories has only told me how much they love it, too. It’s literally so simple and to the point that it’s honestly impossible NOT to have time to do it in the morning (or even at night). 

Research shows that when we are consciously expressing gratitude every day, our stress levels are reduced and overall, we are happier. It seems simple and, like you, I used to think just saying things in my head I’m grateful for was enough. I assure you that it isn’t. There’s an actual memory retention piece that takes place when you take your thoughts and put them on paper. 

PLUS, how awesome would it be to flip back through your journal and see all that you’ve answered to these questions during this season of your life?
